FORT SMITH, Ark. — Fighting hard but starting off tough, the Newman volleyball team fell to Northwest Missouri State on Thursday. The Jets fought and forced a fourth set, but came up just a little bit short in a 3-1 defeat.
KEY SEQUENCE
The Jets (4-6) fought after being down two sets to none, keeping their strong play going by coming back to take the third set and forcing the fourth against a tough Bearcats (5-4) team. But there, Northwest Missouri closed strong, scoring seven of the last eight points to seal the 25-23, 25-22, 24-26, 25-18 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Jets fought in the first two sets, losing them by only two and three points. They were trading points with the Bearcats with the help from Emily Harvey, Megan Pedersen, Anna Burton and Kayla Turner.
-The Jets fought really hard in the final two sets, trading points with the Bearcats and keeping themselves in the game and with the help from Reagan Roth, who had two kills and an assist that helped the Jets keep their lead in the third set.
NOTES
-The Jets led the match in both aces and blocks, while Turner (16), Pedersen (10) and Harvey (10) each put up double-digit kills.
-Pedersen notched 20 assists, while Roth posted 17.
-The Jets had point streaks of seven and six in the final two sets to help build leads, just came up a little short in fourth set.

The Jets continue their play in the Carr Racop tournament on Friday at 2 p.m. when they will take on Henderson State.
