Box Score 4 PUEBLO, Colo. — Starting off dual play in the fall, the Newman men's and women's tennis teams got a jump on the spring by each going unbeaten in a pair of matches Saturday at the Colorado State-Pueblo Tournament.
Both Jet teams picked up wins over Colorado Mesa and Metro State.
The Newman men bounced back from a deficit in doubles to win five singles matches in a 6-3 win over Mesa, with Diego Rojo, Blake Crawford, Lucas Norbiato and Lauri Soom winning in straight sets. Szbin Pusztay went to a tiebreak to grab his win at No. 5
Earlier in the day, the doubles matches gave the Jets a quick lead, as all three earned comfortable wins on the way to a 5-4 victory over Metro State. Norbiato and Soome finished the day unbeaten in singles play.
The Jet women won five singles matches against Metro State in a 6-3 win, with both Liza Gerasimova and Kateryna Stoianova bouncing back from first-set defeats to earn wins.
Stoianova, Vlada Litvinova, Niamh Packer and Emily Young went 2-0 in singles on the day with wins against Colorado Mesa to help the Jets to a 6-3 win over the Mavericks.
The teams close their weekend with a match against host Colorado State-Pueblo Sunday.
