Jets Set To Open Heartland Play On Busy Day

WICHITA, Kan. — With one of its most impressive wins of the season in the rearview mirror, the Newman volleyball team opens Heartland Conference action in the first part of a twinbill Saturday against Lubbock Christian, followed by a nonconference matchup against Southern Nazarene.

Both matches, against LCU at noon and SNU at 4 p.m., will be played at Wichita Hoops, 5260 N. Toler Drive in Bel Aire, Kansas.

SCOUTING NEWMAN

The Jets (5-9, 0-0 Heartland) are coming off a 3-1 victory Tuesday over Park, the No. 4 NAIA team in the country. Newman bounced back after falling in the first set to close the convincing win, getting 10 kills from five different players, including a triple-double out of Megan Pedersen.

SCOUTING THE CHAPARRALS

LCU (3-8, 0-1 Heartland) opened conference play on Thursday, taking a game from Arkansas-Fort Smith, but falling 3-1. Two close sets started the match, but UAFS closed with wins of 25-6 and 25-10 to seal it. Channing Stewart posted nine kills to match a season high in the match.

SCOUTING THE CRIMSON STORM

SNU (6-7) split its first two Great American Conference games this week, topping Southwestern Oklahoma State 3-1 on Tuesday before falling 3-0 to Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday. That followed a weekend that saw the Storm pick up wins over Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State.
