WICHITA, Kan. — The Newman volleyball team continues conference play this week with a quick match out on the road against Arkansas Fort Smith, Tuesday (Oct. 9) before returning home for a weekend match against Lubbock Christian, Saturday (Oct. 13).
SCOUTING NEWMAN
The Jets (1-18, 0-4 in Heartland) had another tough week last week going 0-2 losing in three straight sets (25-19, 25-20 and 25-16) last Thursday (Oct. 4) against St. Mary's. The Jets nearly got their first conference win of the season dropping a heartbreaking match Saturday (Oct. 6) against Texas A&M International in five sets (24-26, 22-25, 25-20, 25-15 and 11-15). After dropping the first two sets the Jets battled back taking the third and fourth sets forcing a decisive fifth set.
SCOUTING THE LADY LIONS
Arkansas Fort Smith (13-8, 3-1 in Heartland) split last week in their two matches. The Lady Lions took 3 straight sets over Texas A&M International before dropping their first conference match of the season on Saturday (Oct. 6) against St. Mary's (3-1), snapping a four game winning streak.
SCOUTING THE CHAPPERLS
Lubbock Christian (13-6, 4-0 in Heartland) heads into the week having won their last nine matches gaining sole possession of first place in the Heartland. The Lady Chaps defeated Dallas Baptist and St. Edwards last week in three straight sets. LCU hosts Texas Permian Basin Tuesday (Oct. 9) before making the road trip to Fugate Gym to face the Jets.
