AUSTIN, Texas — Second half woes continued for the Jets on Wednesday evening (Nov. 28) as they dropped their conference opener on the road to St. Edward's, 96-85. The Jets fall to 4-4 on the year and drop to 0-1 in the Heartland Conference.

Newman trailed early in the contest until junior guard Juwan Davenport went on a 5-0 run of his own, giving the Jets' offense some early momentum taking a 7-5 lead. The two teams continued to shoot it well early in the half, as the teams traded the lead seven different times eleven minutes into the contest.

Midway through the first half forward, DeAndre Johnson scored four of his six first half points in a minute span giving the Jets a 26-21 advantage with 9:04 to play in the half. Dametrius Walker extended the Jets lead to their largest at 31-24 two minutes later, as the Hilltoppers offense went cold going just one of four in a span of three minutes.

The Hilltoppers quickly stormed back late in the first half as the Jets' offense went frigid over a span of 2:03 leading to an 11-0 run by the Hilltoppers regaining a lead at 35-31 with 5:32 to play. Henry Beard ended the 11-0 Hilltoppers run with his second layup of the half underneath. The Hilltoppers closed the first half on a 6-0 run taking a 45-40 lead into the locker room, in a half that saw 12 lead changes and five ties.

Early in the second half, DaMetrius Walker hit his first 3-pointer of the game pushing the Jets back out in front 55-53 with 15:20 to play, capping an 8-0 run. St. Edward's quickly rallied back on a 8-2 run taking back the lead at 61-57.

Midway through the second half, foul trouble started to hurt the Jets' as leading scorer Marshawn Blackmon picked up his third foul. The Hilltoppers extended their lead out to 69-61 as the Jets' offense went cold again without a field goal in a span of 1:54.

DaMetrius Walker continued to carry the Jets on his back scoring 16 of his 25 points in the second half, however the Jets were only able to cut the lead down to eight in the final stretch falling to the Hilltoppers 96-85.

Senior guard DaMetrius Walker led all scorers finishing with a season high 25 points, while junior forward Marshawn Blackmon ended up with 20 points, pulling down nine rebounds.
