Jets Get A Huge Day From The Bullpen To Sweep The Day At Rogers State

CLAREMORE, Okla. — The Newman baseball team was able to sweep the day against Rogers State Saturday, winning game 1 2-1 and game 2 9-6. The Jets were looking to finish out their nonconference schedule on a high note with conference beginning next week.

Game 1

Key Sequence

-The Jets (8-14) were looking at 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning against the Hillcats (14-8) and with the help of the bullpen after an injury early in the game, the Jets were able to bear down and close the door on a close game 2.

How It Happened

-Newman was able to get started early Brian Canfield doubled to right center bringing up Daniel Jahnke who would single to right field giving the Jets an early lead. Later the Jets added another run with a bases-loaded groundout by Easton Herring Scoring Jahnke and giving the Jets a 2-0 lead.

-The Hillcats were able to cut the lead in half in a comeback attempt when Zack Mann had a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Derek Brumble cutting the Jets lead in half but that would be all as the Jets bullpen was able to shut down the Hillcats and get the game 1 win.

Game 2

Key Sequence

The Hillcats (14-8) were able to cut the Jets lead down to one in the fourth inning but the Jets (8-14) were able to go to their bullpen once again using Quinton Bonnell and Trey Tucker who would go six innings combined to help shut down the Hillcats and get the game 2 victory for the Saturday sweep.

How It Happened

-In the first three innings, the Jets were able to get some early run support while the defense went out and helped the pitchers themselves. The Jets were able to get support from Clay Druin, Channing Williams, Brian Canfield, and Aaron Mack giving the gets seven runs in the first three innings.

-The Hillcats would not go away that easy in the middle innings they were able to set themselves up with a good third and fourth inning scoring three runs in each and cutting the Newman lead down to one but the Jets weren't going to let them come back that easy Bonnell and Tucker were both able to close the door and get the Jet a Game 2 victory.

Notes

-Aaron Mack went 3-for-5 in game 2 while Ked Bailey when 3-for-4 in his first start for the Jets this year.

-The Jets conclude a tough nonconference schedule 8-14 looking to continue their turnaround going into conference play next weekend

What's Next

The Jets travel to Austin, Texas as they take on St. Edward's next Friday and Saturday, March 23 and 24.
