KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Earning a trio of three-set wins at singles, the Newman women's tennis team grabbed a 7-2 victory over Rockhurst Sunday afternoon to kick off its spring break road trip.
The Jets (9-4) opened up with a lead after Vlada Litvinova and Kateryna Stoianova earned a 9-8 (7-4) victory at No. 2 doubles and Liza Gerasimova and Emily Young won 8-4 at No. 1.
Stoianova and Litvinova continued their day of thrillers with wins in superset tiebreakers in singles. Litvinova won 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 3, and Stoianova 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) at No. 4, while Gerasimova also bounced back from a first-set loss with a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) win at No. 1.
The Jets, who have won two of three, continue their road trip Monday, facing Lindenwood.
