DALLAS — Hitting its stride as it enters a crucial weekend of in-region matchups, the Newman women's tennis team took care of Texas-Permian Basin 6-3 Friday.
The Jets (12-4), who have now won three straight and are 4-1 against South Central region opponents, grabbed two points in doubles and took three of the first four singles matches to clinch the win over the Falcons (6-6).
Liza Gerasimova and Emily Young teamed up for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, and Gerasimova continued an unbeaten day with a straight-set win at No. 1 singles. Vlada Litvinova and Keteryna Stoianova also added singles wins, while Mariana Gaviria won at No. 6 in a superset tiebreaker.
The Jets continue their tough weekend Saturday, when they face off against Dallas Baptist in a Heartland Conference matchup.
