DALLAS — With every match in the single round-robin schedule of the Heartland Conference crucial, the Newman women's tennis team picked up a big 5-4 victory over Dallas Bapitst Saturday.
The Jets (13-4, 1-1 Heartland) locked up a bid to the conference tournament with the win over the Patriots (10-7, 0-3 Heartland) after earning an important two points in doubles play.
Teams of Liza Gerasimova and Emily Young at No. 1 and Kateryna Stoianova and Vlad Litvinova at No. 2 earned quick wins, with the third court coming down to a tiebreaker that DBU won.
With a split in singles enough for a win, the Jets did just that, as Stoianova, Young and Mariana Gaviria all earning straight-set victories.
Newman wraps up a busy week with a match against Texas A&M-Kingsville Sunday.
