DALLAS — Taking five of the six singles courts, the Newman men's tennis team rolled to a 7-2 victory over Dallas Baptist Saturday to move into first place in the Heartland Conference standings.
The Jets (8-8, 2-0 Heartland) grabbed four singles wins by straight sets against the Patriots (11-3, 0-3 Heartland), and the win locked up a spot in the Heartland postseason for Newman.
Running their team's win streak to three straight matches, Lauri Soome, Lucas Norbiato, Diego Rojo and Blake Craword did not drop a set in the top four singles matches.
Enrique Coiras gutted out a three-set victory at No. 6, and teamed up with Soome for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles.
Newman wraps up a busy week with a match against a tough NAIA squad in Texas A&M-Texarkana Sunday.
