The Jets Fall Short In Conference Home Opener

WICHITA, Kan. — The Newman Baseball team lost two tough games Thursday at the hands of the Lubbock Christian, losing game 1 1-0 on a good pitching performance from both teams and the Jets would lose game 2 9-3 falling short in a comeback attempt.

Game 1

Key Sequence

The Jets (10-18, 2-4 Heartland) were looking at a bases-loaded situation when Ked Bailey came up to the plate a sacrifice fly to right field would create a rundown situation at both second and third but Clay Druin would be the end result of the rundown between third and home giving the Chaps (21-7, 6-0 Heartland) the game 1 victory.

How It Happened

-The Chaps would get it started in the top of the first, Will Clark doubled to left field and would later steal third bringing up Ryan Rogers who would ground out to shortstop Turner Lace scoring Clark giving the Chaps a 1-0 lead and later the close game 1 victory.

Game 2

Key Sequence

The Jets (10-18, 2-4 Heartland) were looking at a 4-2 deficit against the Chaps (21-7, 6-0 Heartland) were looking to get back in the game but the Lubbock Christian pitching would keep the Jets at bay while adding five more runs in the later innings getting the game 2 victory 9-3.

How It Happened

-In the bottom of the second, the Jets got things started with a Channing Williams walk giving an opportunity to Jake Hanson who came through with a double to left center scoring Williams. Turner Lace would come up and single to center field advancing Hanson to third, a sacrifice fly from Paul Rupnik would score Hanson giving the Jets a 2-0 lead.

-In the third the Chaps would get contribution from a lot of their lineup first Angres Negron would single to left field advancing on a groundout by Keaton Greenwalt. Will Clark would single to right field scoring Negron. Andrew Pratt would double to left center scoring Nethercot and Clark, Pratt would score himself on a Dillion Drury single to center field Lubbock would now take a 4-2 lead.

-Lubbock would add to their lead in the fifth beginning with a Pratt single to left center later advancing on a wild pitch, Drury would come up with a single up the middle Scotland Church would also single up the middle scoring Drury and a Greenwalt triple down the left field line would score Hayward and Negron giving the Chaps an 8-2 and in the later innings adding another run getting the 9-3 game 2 victory.

Notes

-Pitcher Zach Erdman had a good day on the mound for the Jets allowing one run on six hits and one walk in close game 1 for Newman.

-Paul Rupnik is 10th in the Heartland in batting average entering the series against the Chaps.

What's Next

The Jets conclude the series with the Chaps Friday, March 30 with a doubleheader starting at noon.
