Box Score WICHITA, Kan. — In a match full of close tilts, the Newman men's tennis team won just enough, picking up a 5-4 victory over Arkansas-Fort Smith to open up Heartland Conference play Friday afternoon at Riverside Tennis Center.
The Jets (4-5, 1-0 Heartland) saw their hopes ride on the final match of the day against the Lions (5-4, 1-1 Heartland), and Diego Rojo delivered, winning the final two sets in a 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 3 singles to clinch the win.
He was joined by Blake Crawford, Szbin Pusztay and Enrique Coiras, who picked up straight-set wins earlier in singles play, and Rojo teamed up with Ajani King for what turned out to be a crucial 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Jets return to action quickly, hosting William Jewell at 1 p.m. Friday back at Riverside to continue a busy weekend.
