A Big Game Two Gives The Jets A Day One Split With The Eagles

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Newman Baseball team was able to split the day with Oklahoma Christian, falling in game 1 12-8 and picking up the game 2 victory 16-8. The Jets were able to get production top to bottom from their lineup in both games which helped them get the game 2 victory.

Game 1

Key Sequence

The Jets (13-23,5-9 Heartland) were looking for an opportunity to get back into the game against the Eagles (17-17,7-7 Heartland) but as the game got into the later innings the Eagles were able to get some extra insurance runs on their way to the game 1 victory.

How It Happened

-After a delay early in the game, the Jets were able to come back and get their offense going, a Channing Williams single and steal put Newman in a good position Brian Canfield would single to center field giving the Jets a one-run lead early.

-Oklahoma Christian got back into the game in the bottom of the inning, Hunter Markwardt got things started with a single up the middle and would later steal second bringing up Ryan Ward who would double to left field scoring Markwardt tying the game at one. In the second inning, the Eagles' Kolton Brown singled to center field setting up Alex Garcia who homered to center field giving the Eagles a 3-1. Later in the second Markwardt walked and would later score on a Jake Collins single to center giving Oklahoma Christian a 4-1 lead.

-For Newman in the third Ked Bailey was able to start the inning with a walk, bringing up Williams who doubled to right center scoring Bailey cutting the Eagle lead to two runs. Williams would later score on a Canfield single to left center cutting the lead again this time to one-run. In the later innings for the Jets, they were able to get some clutch hits from a lot of their lineup including a Jake Hanson home run in the fifth but the Eagles were able to halt the Jets in their comeback opportunities.

-Getting into the middle and later parts of the game the Eagles were able to add on and gain a sizable lead with the help of some timely hits and good base running. Brown would hit a home run in the third and fourth inning this would lead to Oklahoma Christian getting the game 1 victory 12-8.

Game 2

The Jets (13-23,5-9 Heartland) used a big first inning to gain their advantage early against the Eagles (17-17,7-7 Heartland) with production coming early from Brian Canfield, Channing Williams, Ked Bailey, and Paul Rupnik the Jets -took a 7-0 lead leading to the game two victory splitting the first day of the series with Oklahoma Christian.

How It Happened

-The Jets were able to get on the board early and often in the first inning with production coming from the line up in every way, a plus in the inning was a Daniel Jahnke home run to center field which would give the team a 6-0 lead tacking another run later to end the inning up 7-0.

-Oklahoma Christian would cut the Jet lead to two-runs after the team themselves got some timely and productive hits throughout their lineup. The Eagles were able to get some good hits from Alex Garcia, Brice Smith, Jake Collins and Hunter Markwardt, with this production it was a 7-5 game at the end of the third.

-Going in the middle innings the Jets were able to continue their hot game, this time getting production from the middle and end of their lineup with help from Turner Lace, Easton Herring, and Aaron Mack the Jets would continue their run scoring for three innings leading to a 13-8 lead going into the last couple of innings. In those later innings, the Jets would tack on three more runs on their way to a 16-8 game 2 victory and a split of the first day of the series.

Notes

-In game two the Jets were able to get major production from Brian Canfield who went 4-for-5 with three runs, two RBIs, and a double. Aaron Mack added a 5-for-6 game with two runs, two RBIs, and two doubles.

-In game 2 the Jets pitching was able to combine for five strikeouts, five walks, and two earned runs in the victory.

-The Jets tallied 21 hits in game 2 which is the most since the team had 22 against Oklahoma Panhandle State April 9, 2011.

The Jets will finish their series with the Eagles Saturday starting at noon.
