The Jets Get A Walk Off Victory In Game 2 to Help Sweep The Dustdevils

WICHITA, Kan. — The Newman Baseball team was able to get two wins Friday to sweep the day and the series against Texas A&M International winning game 1 8-5 and winning game 2 in the bottom of the ninth inning with some late heroics. After this series, the Jets move up in the conference standings with two series left to play.

Game 1

Key Sequence

The Jets (18-24, 10-10 Heartland) were looking at a seven-run lead going into the top of the sixth inning when the Dustdevils (12-29, 4-16 Heartland) began their rally scoring four runs to make it a three-run game but the Jets went into their bullpen and were able to shut the door on the Dustdevils to get the game 1 victory.

How It Happened

-The Dustdevils got on the board first with Ricky Gonzalez scoring on a single through the left side by Jorge Napoles and giving the team a 1-0.

-The Next three innings the Jets would score eight runs and with production from their lineup top to bottom the Jets were able to get their run support with help from Channing Williams, Brian Canfield, Jake Hanson, Ked Bailey and Paul Rupnik the Jets were able to take an 8-1 lead.

-The Dustdevils used a big sixth inning to begin their comeback against the Jets they were able to get a big home run from Gonzalez, later getting a single from Napoles and a double from Mathew Trevino and by the end of the inning, it was a three-run game. The Jets would go to their bullpen and bring in Trey Tucker who would give the Jets two solid innings to get the Game 1 victory.

Game 2

Key Sequence

-The Jets (18-24, 10-10 Heartland) were looking at a tied game going into the bottom of the ninth against the Dustdevils (12-29, 4-16 Heartland) when the inning would start with a walk, throwing error, and fielder's choice which would bring up Ked Bailey in a big run-scoring opportunity and the Leadoff hitter came through with a single to right field scoring the winning run for the series sweep.

How It Happened

-The Dustdevils got on the board first again for game 2 with a Jorge Napoles hit a sacrifice fly to right scoring Daniel Espinosa for the early 1-0 lead.

-The Jets would use another three innings to get a chunk of their runs with production coming from Tyler Push, Daniel Jahnke, Easton Herring, and Turner Lace who all were able to give the Jets productive at-bats and give the team a three-run lead going into the later innings.

-The Dustdevils used a big sixth inning to get back into the game using a Mathew Trevino double down the left field line scoring Napoles and Ricky Gonzalez bring the Jet lead down to one-run and the teams would begin to go back and forth to close out the game.

-In the bottom of the ninth inning the Jets were looking to finish off the game and get the sweep of Texas A&M-International, Tyler Push began the inning with a walk, Easton Herring reached on a throwing error and Turner Lace would reach on a fielder's error bringing up Bailey who would get a pitch he liked and take it to right field scoring Herring and giving the Jets a 7-6 game 2 victory.

Notes

- Turner Lace finished game two going 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs for the Jets in the game 2 victory.

-Ked Bailey has now reached base safely in 15 games the longest streak on the team this season.

What's Next

The Jets finish their home schedule when they welcome the Rogers State Hillcats Friday and Saturday April 27th and 28th at 2 P.M. and Noon.
