Jets Get A Big Series Win As The Season Winds Down

WICHITA, Kan. — The Newman baseball team swept day 2 of their series as they were able to win the series against Rogers state. The Jets were able to take the first game 4-3 and game two 8-5 with the help of a big third and fourth inning.

Game 1

Key Sequence

The Jets (21-25,13-11 Heartland) used a big third inning plating three runs to take a 3-1 lead going into the later part of the game, the Hillcats (23-23, 9-15 Heartland) were able to cut the lead to one but with the help of the defense pitcher Roger Wilson was able to get the complete game 1 win.

How It Happened

-Newman was able to get some good production from their lineup in the first two innings, a sacrifice fly by Jake Hanson gave the Jets an early lead. A Paul Rupnik home run to left field scoring Turner Lace, later Jake Hanson would single to left field scoring Ked Bailey that would give the Jets a 4-1 lead.

-Rogers State used the fifth and the sixth innings for their comeback attempt getting production from Brendan Griffith who singled to left field scoring Zach Mann, in the sixth the Hillcats got another run from Sam Casinelli who suicide squeeze scored Brooks Douglass cutting the Jet lead to one-run but Roger Wilson settled down and was able to close the game out and get the Jets the game 1 win.

Game 2

Key Sequence

The Jets (21-25, 13-11 Heartland) were looking at a 2-0 deficit going into the fifth inning against the Hillcats (23-23, 9-15 Heartland) but Newman was able to put together a series of hits scoring eight runs in two innings, while the bullpen was able to shut the door and get the team the series win.

How It Happened

-The Hillcats got on the board early getting run in the first two innings behind a Blake Chiaramonte double down the left field line scoring Bradley Degnan, later in the second Degnan would single to right field scoring Garrett Hall and giving Rogers a 2-0 lead.

-Newman used the bottom of the fifth to get back into the game Paul Rupnik singled to center field scoring Aaron Mack and Daniel Jahnke, Rupnik would later score on a Brian Canfield single to right field giving the Jets a 3-2 lead.

-In the Sixth, Newman had a big inning getting production top to bottom Turner Lace got things started with a single to center field scoring Channing Williams, a Rupnik Single to center field would score Easton Herring giving Newman a 5-3 lead. Ked Bailey would reach on an error scoring Lace and Jake Hanson would give the Jets a big hit singling to center field scoring Rupnik and giving the Jets an 8-3 lead.

-Rogers State got a run back in the top of the seventh when Brendan Griffith scored on a wild pitch and the Hillcats would grab another run in eighth when Chris Nakashima was hit by a pitch scoring Zach Mann the Newman lead was trimmed to 8-5, but the Jets bullpen settled down and close the door on the series on senior day.

Notes

-Roger Wilson was able to get the complete game with a stat line of 2 earned runs, three walks, and five strikeouts in his game 1 victory.

-Paul Rupnik was able to give the Jets a lot of run support in both games contributing five RBIs and four runs scored on the day.

The Jets conclude their regular season taking on St. Mary's in San Antonio May 4-5th.
