Men's Soccer looks to get Started on Road Trip

WICHITA, Kan. — The Newman men's soccer team will conclude their longest five game road trip of the season on Thursday and Saturday. The Jets will travel down south to take on West Texas A&M (Sept. 20), before heading west to conclude the road trip against Eastern New Mexico (Sept. 22) in Heartland Conference play.

SCOUTING NEWMAN

The Jets (3-3-0, 0-2-0 Heartland) began conference play on the road last Thursday against Oklahoma Christian dropping the contest 2-0. The Eagles took advantage in the first half netting a penalty kick gaining the early edge. The Jets had a great opportunity to tie things up until Eagles keeper Anthony Trabichet stopped Carlos Rubio Garcia's penalty kick. The Eagles got a quick second half goal to go up 2-0 taking control in the contest. The Jets got another opportunity to get back into the game with another penalty kick but Fenando Robles shot was saved by Trabichet again. The Jets despite dropping the contest outshot the Eagles 22-11, with 11 of those coming on net to the Eagles 3 shots on net.

The Jets trying to rebound from their first conference loss of the season matched up against the top team in DII Midwestern State. The Jets fell to the top team in the nation 3-1 on Saturday. Despite the outcome on the scoreboard the Jets managed to keep it a close contest up until the final minutes of the game. After trailing 2-0 midway thru the first half Ed Jabbari recorded his fourth goal of the year cutting the Mustangs lead in half. The Mustangs would put things away with a late goal in the second half. The Jets were outshot 18 to 9 and only managed to get 3 shots on target against a great defensive club.

SCOUTING THE BUFFS

West Texas A&M (4-1-1, 1-1-0 Heartland) saw their three game winning streak come to an end last Thursday as they fell on the road to Lubbock Christian 2-0. It was the first time the Buffs had been shut out all season. The Buffs regrouped on Saturday blanking UT Permian Basin 3-0, to even up their conference record.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

Eastern New Mexico University (3-2-1, 1-0-1 Heartland) started off conference play with a convincing 3-1 victory on the road against UT Permian Basin Thursday night. The Greyhounds ended a 2 game losing streak with the win. On Saturday the Greyhounds settled for a 1-1 draw against Lubbock Christian.

NOTES

- Newman will look for their first conference victory of the year.

- Newman is averaging 1.50 goals per game while allowing 1.5 goals a game.

- West Texas A&M is perfect at home this year with a 3-0-0 record.

-Eastern New Mexico has scored in every game this year, while they've also allowed a goal in each of those contests as well.
