Newman Volleyball Set to Begin Week Long Road Trip

WICHITA, Kan. — the Newman volleyball team travels out on the road this week as they face a non-conference opponent before beginning Heartland play. The Jets will begin the road trip Tuesday (Sept. 25) in Bethany, OK facing non-conference opponent Southern Nazarene at 7 p.m. They will then travel down to the Lone Star State where they will open conference play against St. Edward's Thursday (Sept. 27) at 7 p.m. in Austin, TX. The Jets will complete the three game trip in Dallas, TX on Saturday (Sept. 29) as they continue conference play taking on Dallas Baptist with first serve schedule for noon.

SCOUTING NEWMAN

The Jets (1-12, 0-0 Heartland) lost in three straight sets Wednesday night to undefeated Park University (25-14, 25-16, and 25-13). The Jets were doomed by late rallies in the first and second sets in match. The Jets used a late rally in the third set but Park's early start ended up being the deciding factor in the third set.

SCOUTING THE STORM

Southern Nazarene (10-9, 3-2 in Great American) had a good last week going 2-1 on the week with wins over East Central (3-0) and Dallas Baptist (3-1). The Storm's only loss came against Northwestern Oklahoma State (0-3). The Storm head into the contest on Tuesday night having won 4 of their last 5 games.

SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS

St. Edwards (10-6, 0-0 Heartland) fell against Texas A&M Kingsville (3-2) in their lone game last week. The Hilltoppers welcome in the Jets Thursday night and wrap up their three game homestead Saturday against Arkansas-Fort Worth. The Hilltoppers have won two of their last three matches.

SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS

Dallas Baptist (7-9, 0-0 Heartland) begins a stretch of playing five matches in nine days beginning on Tuesday. DBU fell last week to Oklahoma Baptist (3-0), #25 Texas A&M Commerce (3-0) and Southern Nazarene (3-1). DBU currently is on a season worst four game losing streak.

GAME NOTES

- Yemima Buana leads the Jets in kills with 69 and blocks with 22.

- Mackenzie Anderson's leads the Jets defense with 129 digs.
