LANCASTER, Texas - The Jet's men's basketball team opened up play in the GAC/MIAA Challenge. Their first game of the challenge came against the Henderson State Reddies.
The Jets were able to get a lead early. After a three by
David Javorsky, Newman took a 10-6 lead just five and a half minutes in. Henderson State would make a three to give them a 15-12 lead. Newman would be able to keep the score within five points for the half but would never be able to get the lead back. The Reddies would take a 29-24 lead into the half.
Newman was able to score the first four points of the second half behind two baskets from
Marshawn Blackmon to get the score to 29-27 in favor of the Reddies. That would be as close as the Jets would be able to get the score in the second half. Henderson State was able to extend their lead to as much as 11 at one point in the half. Jets were able to get the score down to five, but couldn't get it any closer.
The Jets had two players with double-doubles in the game.
DeAndre Johnson had 18 points and 12 rebounds and
Marshawn Blackmon had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Johnson also added 2 blocks to his stat line.

Tyjil Hereford contributed 7 points a piece as well.
The Jets will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they take on Southern Arkansas at 1:00 P.M. for their second game of the GAC/MIAA Challenge.
