WICHITA, Kan. - The Jets played in the second game of the Clarion Inn Central Region Challenge this afternoon against the East Central Tigers. After a come from behind win last night, the Jets looked to come out this afternoon with a quick start.
Newman would come out firing in the first quarter as they would score the games first 5 points. East Central would then hit back to back threes to take the lead 6-5. The Jets would take the lead back after an and-one by
Makayla Hayes gave them a 10-8 lead.
Brooke Haney would hit a three and a jumper to build the Jets lead to 15-8 before two ECU free throws cut the lead to 5 at the end of the first quarter.
The Jets would go cold in the second quarter as they would only score thee points in the quarter, a layup from
Abbey George and a free throw by
Amoni White. Newman would give up 15 points in the quarter to the Tigers and fall behind by 9 points heading into the half. The Tigers took a 27-18 lead into the break.
Haley Albers would get the scoring started for the Jets in the third quarter as she would hit a three to cut the Tigers lead to 29-21 just a minute and a half in the quarter. Albers would score 8 of the Jets 12 points in the quarter as ECU would extend their lead to 44-30 to end the quarter.
Mackenzie Brown would get the scoring going for the Jets as she made a layup. An ECU three pointer would extend their lead to 18 points, the highest of the game. Newman would be able to get the Tiger lead down to 13 on a free throw by
Michaela Mack.
The Jets were led in scoring by
Kaitlyn Potter with 9 points and
Haley Albers with 8 points.
Braxtyn Stewart led the team with 7 rebounds while Albers added 6.
Newman will be back in action on Saturday, November 16, as they host Northwestern Oklahoma State at 1:30 P.M.
