Wichita, Kan. – The Newman Jets played host to Central Oklahoma Saturday afternoon in MIAA conference play.  Newman would fall 68-66 to Central Oklahoma thanks to a buzzer beater by Dashon Bell.
Despite outscoring the Bronchos in the first half, Newman failed to put away Central Oklahoma.  In the first half, Newman would start on fire going on a 16-2 run to begin the contest.  Central Oklahoma would tie the game at 20-20 with 7:51 left in the first half.  Newman would respond by going on an 11-0 run to end the first half with a 9 point lead at the intermission, 39-30.
In the second half, Central Oklahoma would turn up the pressure. The Bronchos would slowly cut into the deficit and eventually tie the game up at 54-54 with 6:47 left in the second half.  After some back and forth scoring by both teams, Newman had a 1 point lead with 1:35 left in regulation.  
Marshawn Blackmon would hit a jumper to make the Jets lead up to 3 with 45 seconds left.
Central Oklahoma would come down on the ensuing possession and make a big three point basket to tie the game at 66-66 with 29 seconds left.  Newman had possession with less than 30 seconds left in the game but would end up turning the ball over and UCO would call a timeout with 4.2 seconds left.  This gave Central Oklahoma a chance to beat Newman on their own home floor. The Bronchos would inbound the ball to Dashon Bell, who was 1-9 on the night, Bell would dribble down the far side of the court and pull up a few feet inside the three point line and sink a jumper, his second make of the night.
Newman shot 27-of-54 from the floor for 50 percent, 6-of-17 from three for 35 percent and 6-of-10 from the free throw line for 60 percent.  While Central Oklahoma shot 24-of-52 for 46 percent, and 4-of-14 from 3 for 28 percent.
 
Newman was led in scoring by 
Marshawn Blackmon with a career high 30 points, 
Juwan Davenport added 10 points in the loss.
Newman (6-6, 0-3) will look to rebound starting in the New Year as they host Lincoln University on Jan. 4 starting at 3:30 P.M.
