CLEBURNE, Texas — The Newman baseball took on Oklahoma Panhandle State in the final day of their Cleburne road trip. The Jets were looking to keep momentum going into the final day of the tournament. The Jets were able to win big and come out the tournament at .500 with a record of 2-2.
The Jets were down early as the Aggies were up 2-0 going into the second inning, in the second inning the Jets were able to get on the board as Conner Langrell reached on an error by the Aggies shortstop Matt Reeves would advance to third and Daniel Blake would score cutting into the lead 2-1. Newman would tie the game on a Jon Coufal sacrifice fly to right field scoring Reeves and tying the game at two.
The Jets would continue their scoring in the middle innings Blake got the Jets on the board quick with a home run to right field, later in the fifth inning the Jets got on the board again beginning with a Turner Lace triple down the left field line scoring Paul Rupnik, Later a Mitchell Aus single up the middle help the Jets increase their scoring Turner Lace and the lead was now 5-2.
The Aggies were able to get a run in the sixth giving the Jets a 7-3 lead going into the later innings. The Jets were beginning to run away with it as in the seventh they were up big getting contribution from Blake, Aus, Rupnik, and plenty of other Jets for a five run inning giving themselves a comfortable lead, a Rupnik single to third base put the Jets up 10 runs late in the game leading to a good victory to end the weekend.
The Jets were able to get contribution from multiple players Saturday (Rupnik, Austin, Blake, and Push) all had multiple hits in the Jets victory Saturday.
Blake Thunberg went six innings only allowing three runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out three.
The Jets travel back home for a four-game series against Truman State Saturday and Sunday Beginning at noon both days.
