Box Score FORT-SMITH, Ark. – The Newman men's tennis team opened Heartland Conference play strong with a 5-1 victory over Arkansas-Fort Smith Thursday afternoon (Mar. 14). The Jets improve to 4-8 on the season, while the Lions drop to 2-6.
Newman took two of the three doubles matches played to earn one match point and take the early lead. No. 1 doubles Arthur Justo and Lauri Soome won 7-5 while No. 3 doubles Teodor Antelj and Marcel Miasato secured a 6-2 victory.
After splitting the first two singles matches to the Lions, Szbin Pusztay, Antelj and Soome responded with wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 clinching the team victory.
