WICHITA, Kan. — The Newman softball team was unable to get the big hits needed on Saturday afternoon (Mar. 15) as the Jets fell short 4-3 (8-innings) and 5-3 in game two, the Jet were working at the plate in game two but the team just fell short as the Chap got a big home run late to get the victory.
Game 1
The Jets had the lead early in game one and as the game was winding down the Chaps began to make their comeback as the Chaps got a single up the middle scoring a runner giving them the lead late, but the Jets weren't done yet. In the bottom of the inning, the Jets were working quick and early Paige Wallace got things started with a single to center field, bringing up Lacey Colvin who reached on fielder's choice. Emma Eck came up with a huge double to deep right center scoring Colvin tying the game at three.
The Chaps came up in the extra inning and was able to get the run right back after a two quick singles, the Chaps had runners on first and second after a single through the left side scoring Wysocki gave the Chaps the game one victory in extra innings.
Game 2
In the bottom of the fourth, The Jets were already looking at a 1-0 deficit but with some persistence the Jets came back strong. A double by Bailey Bugner scored Emma Eck who double earlier in the inning, that would bring up Dominique Payne with an opportunity to put the team up and she came through hitting a home run to left field and the Jets now had a 3-1 lead.
The Chaps went scoreless for the next two innings but they would get a big home run from pinch hitter Alexis Reed who hit a grand slam to put Lubbock up by two going into the last inning. The Jets were able to get runners on base but the team would fall just short in the comeback falling in game two 5-3.
Payne would have a good day at the plate going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a big home run for the Jets.
The Jets will look to bounce back with the series finale coming tomorrow afternoon with first pitch coming at 12 PM.
