WICHITA, Kan. — The Newman Baseball team was looking for a series win against St. Mary's as both teams split the first day of the series after the Jets come from behind win in the second game. The Jets struggled in game three as the Rattlers took the series finale and the series over the Jets.
After the Rattler's took an early 2-0 lead, the Jets were able to cut right back into it Paul Rupnik singled through the right side, bringing up Kyle Koch who doubled down the left field line scoring Rupnik the Rattler lead was now 2-1. The Rattlers would get one back in the second and the Jets were trying to keep it at a one run game as they came up to bat. The Jets' bats struggled at the plate Friday as they were trying to find a way back into the game.
The defense of the Jets was fairly good only three errors but the Newman bullpen did struggle in the loss Friday afternoon, and the Rattlers took advantage of the pitching miscues from the Jets. The Jets fought as hard as they could but it wouldn't be enough as the team dropped the series finale at the hands of the Rattlers.
Kyle Koch had a day at the plate going 2-for-3 with an RBI in Friday's loss.
The Jets return to McCarthy Field for a mid-week matchup with Emporia State Tuesday March 26 with first pitch come at 3 PM.
