LIBERTY, Mo. – The Newman men's and women's tennis teams dropped heartbreakers to Rockhurst Friday afternoon (Mar. 8). The women's team was upended 4-3, while the same outcome was the case for the men's team 4-3.

Women
The Hawks jumped out to an early 1-0 match lead winning No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. No. 2 doubles Liza Gerasimova and Vlada Litvinova secured the lone set win in doubles action 6-1.

In singles action Newman was unable to gain the advantage as the Hawks and Jets split 3-3. No. 2 Vlada Litvinova, No. 3 Isabela Bifano and No. 6 Marian Gaviria all secured singles wins.

Men
The Jets fell behind 1-0 in the match as Rockhurst secured all three doubles matches.

No. 4 Teodor Antelj, No. 5 Lauri Soome and No. 6 Marcel Miasato all secured single sets wins giving the Jets a chance to overcome the 1-0 deficit. However, Newman's rally fell just short as No. 2 singles Arthur Justo dropped a heartbreaking third set 2-6, 7-5, 4-7.
