WICHITA, Kan. – The Newman men's and women's tennis extended their win streaks Thursday afternoon (Apr. 19) pulling away late notching 4-3 victories over Emporia State at the Riverside Tennis Park.

Women
The Jets got off to a solid start in the match claiming the doubles point taking 2-of-3 matches. Vlada Litvinova and Liza Gerasimova claimed a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles. Emily Young and Isabela Bifano helped seal the match with a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles.

Things got intriguing as the Hornets responded back strongly in the early going in singles action claiming the first three singles points. Trailing 3-1, the Jets got huge contributions from No. 4 singles Emily Young, No. 5 Mariana Gaviria and No. 6 Mirella Calvalvanti claiming the final three points of the match squeaking out a 4-3 victory.

Men
In doubles action, Marcel Miasato and Teodor Antelj put the Jets a match away from claiming the one point with a straight 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles. No. 2 doubles, Blake Crawford and Szbin Pusztay claimed the doubles point with a 6-2 win giving Newman a 1-0 lead heading into singles action.

After dropping the top three singles matches, No. 4 Teodor Antelj trimmed the ESU lead to 3-2 with a 6-0 and 6-1 win. No. 5 singles Szbin Pusztay would claim a point for the Jets knotting up the match 3-3 by retirement leading 6-3, 3-6 and 3-2 in the third set. Heading into ta winner take all at No. 6 singles, Marcel Miasato secured the match win for the Jets winning 6-4 and 6-3.
