Jets fall to Northeastern State 75-66

Wichita, Kan.  – The Newman Jets hosted Northeastern State looking to snap a three game losing streak. Unfortunately for the Jets, they would fall to Northeastern State in a close game throughout, 75-66.

In the first half, it was a back and forth game with neither team gaining an advantage until the 7:52 mark in the half when Northeastern State (12-6, 5-4) would take the lead and hold on to the lead for the remainder of the half. A dunk by Marshawn Blackmon would cut the deficit to 1 with 37 seconds left as Newman would go into the half trailing 36-35.

In the second half, the Riverhawks would start on an 8-0 run to take their biggest lead of the day at 9 points. Newman would fight back as they would go on a 9-2 run to cut the deficit back down to two points with 15:17 left. Northeastern State would respond with their own 9-2 run to extend the lead back to 9 with 12:39 left. Newman would try to make a comeback, but NSU was too much for the Jets as the Riverhawks would defeat the Jets 75-66.

Newman (7-11, 1-8) shot 22-of-54 from the floor for 40.7 percent, 5-of-20 from three for 25 percent and 17-of-19 from the free throw line for 89.5 percent. While Northeastern State shot 25-of-56 for 44.6 percent, and 6-of-27 from 3 for 22.2 percent. The Jets were out-rebounded by the Riverhawks by 1, 35-34, with Newman pulling in 10 on the offensive end.

Newman was led in scoring by Allen Wilson with 19 points,
Marshawn Blackmon added 18 points and 11 rebounds for his eleventh double-double on the season in the Jets loss.

Newman will look to rebound as they travel to Emporia, Kan. to take on Emporia State University Wednesday, Jan. 22nd with tip-off slated for 7:30 P.M.
