WICHITA, Kan. – The Newman Jets hosted the Central Missouri Jennies Monday night inside Fugate Gymnasium. The Jets came up just short of the MIAA leading Jennies as they fell 62-59.
In the first quarter,
Kaitlyn Potter broke the Newman career three pointers made record with her 151st made three with 2:46 left in the quarter. In the second quarter the back and forth scoring continued until Newman would go on a 11-2 run midway through the quarter to get their largest lead on the game, 8 points with 5:03 left. Newman would lead by 4 points at the half 37-33.
In the second half, Newman would go ice cold shooting 9-30 from the field, and would get outscored 29-22 by Central Missouri (10-3, 4-0). The Jets would fall 62-59 with a missed three by Potter as time expired.
Newman (7-7, 2-3) shot 22-of-58 for 37 percent from the floor, 5-of-23 for 21 percent from three and 10-of-14 for 71 percent from the free throw line. Newman held Central Missouri to 22-of-60 for 36 percent from the field and 1-of-16 for 6 percent from three. Newman was out-rebounded by the Jennies by 14, 40-26, with 13 coming from the offensive end compared to Newman's 7.
Kaitlyn Potter led the Jets in scoring with 20 points.
Michaela Mack added 11 points in the Jets loss.
Newman will travel to Pittsburg, Kansas as they take on Pittsburg State on Jan. 9
