THE COACHES
RJ Allen is in his fourth season as the head coach and tenth on the staff for the Jets. Allen is 0-0 in his fourth season at Newman. Last season under coach Allen, the Jets went 9-19 and 3-16 in the MIAA. Â Allen has led Newman to a 34-23 overall record and a 21-11 Heartland Conference record over his first two seasons. Allen won Heartland Conference Coach of the Year honors in the 2017-18 season, he was the first coach to win the award in their first season. Prior to Newman Allen spent 5 season as an assistant coach at Concordia University in St. Paul, Minn.
Jeff Boschee enters his seventh season as Men's Basketball Head Coach for Missouri Southern State in the 2020-21 season. During his time at Missouri Southern State, Boschee post a career record of 124-61 and his the fastest coach to reach 100 wins in school history. Boschee also guided the Lions to their third straight NCAA Tournament appearance last season with a 23-8 record.Â

Missouri Southern State is 1-0 on the season, 1-0 in the MIAA. MSSU played at Central Oklahoma Thursday night and came away with a 75-74 win behind 27 points from Cam Martin and 21 points from Winston Dessesow.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the fourth meeting between these two schools with Missouri Southern leading the series 2-1 over Newman with the latest matchup being Jan. 11, 2020, where the Lions defeated the Jets 79-49.
LAST TIME VS MISSOURI SOUTHERN
In the first half, Missouri Southern State (13-2, 6-0) started the game on an 11-0 run to jump out to an early lead. Â
Marshawn Blackmon would stop the run with a layup. The Jets' offense looked out of sorts for most of the game and the Lions would take advantage. The Lions were in full control in the first half with their biggest lead coming after a 3 point basket by Parker Jennings gave MSSU a 27 point lead with 2 minutes left in the first half. Newman would score the final four points of the half to cut the lead to 42-19 at the half, their largest halftime deficit of the season. In the second half, the momentum was still in favor of the Lions as they would get their largest lead at 36 with 3:54 left in regulation. Newman was only outscored by 7 points in the second half compared to the 23 in the first half. Missouri Southern controlled the game from the opening tip to the final buzzer as they would take down the Jets 79-49.
