Jets drop exhibition match to Shockers

Box Score WICHITA, Kan. – The Jets filled a hole in the Shockers schedule on Wednesday night after East Carolina forced a postponement of the originally scheduled American Athletic Conference game. Newman took the short trip across town to take on Wichita State in what would be considered a regular season contest for WSU and an exhibition for NU.

The Shockers would jump out to a commanding 16-0 lead before the Kendrick Buskey got the Jets on the board with back to back layups. Newman would struggle on both ends of the floor in the first half as they would a mere 8-33 from the floor, while Wichita State shot 19-37.

The Jets came out in the second half putting together a little run to cut into the Shockers lead before WSU would eventually take control back over and come out victorious 81-43 over Newman.

NU was led in scoring by Joel Boyce who was the only Jet to reach double figures with 10 points. He also added in 9 rebounds and a steal. The Shockers were led by Dexter Dennis who had 13 points. The Jets shot 18-67 from the floor for 26.9 percent. The Shockers shot 33-67 from the floor for 49.3 percent.

The Jets will be back in action on Saturday, January 2nd as they travel to Emporia State to make up a previously postponed contest with tip-off coming at 4:00 pm.
