WICHITA, Kan. – The Jets played their first game of the season away from Fugate Gymnasium Saturday afternoon as they took on the Ichabods of Washburn inside Lee Arena. Washburn coming off of a 35 point loss to Kansas in Lawrence, controlled this game from the tip as they would take a commanding lead early when they scored the first eleven points of the game on their way to a 100-61 defeat of the Jets.

Newman would fall behind early and struggle to get back into the game as they would not get the score closer than six points a feat that they accomplished just short of halfway through the first half. After the intermission, Washburn (4-0, 4-0) would continue to control every aspect of the game until the end.
Newman (0-3, 0-3) would shoot 33.8 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from behind the arc and just 66.7 percent from the charity stripe. While, the Ichabods would shoot 52.2 percent from the floor, 50 percent from three point land and 72.7 percent from the free throw line.
The Jets were led in scoring by two freshman,
Jorge Oliva with 13 and
Angelo Santiago with 12.
J'Sebian Brown added in 11 points as well as 7 rebounds. Washburn's Tyler Geiman would lead all scorers as he put up 21 points in the contest.
