ADA, Okla. - After postponing Tuesday's matchup with East Central, the Jets rescheduled the doubleheader for Saturday and moved it from a home game to an away game. Newman would drop the first game to ECU 7-0 and the second game 5-4.
The first game would be all Tigers as they would jump on the Jets early, striking for two runs in the first inning. ECU would pick up one more in the second inning and three more in the fifth inning. The Tigers would get their last run in the sixth inning before finishing off the Jets in the seventh. The Jets would get 5 hits, 5 walks and strand 8 runners on the bases in the game.
Bailey Bugner would get the start for the Jets on the mound and go 2 for 3 in the box.
In the second game of the doubleheader, both teams would remain scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when the Jets would plate three runs.
Lauren Kuhrt would single scoring
Londin Fiorella.
Shanda Cox would reach on an error by the second baseman that would score Kuhrt.
Lacey Colvin would then get an RBI single to bring in Cox. Newman would score all three runs in the inning with two outs. Newman would score again in the top of the seventh inning.
Sierra Spurlock would get the inning started with a single. L. Kuhrt would come up next and hit a single advancing Spurlock to second. Cox would advance the runners with a sac bunt, giving the Jets runners on second and third with one out. Colvin would walk to load the bases up for Darissa Buenorostro who would hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Spurlock.
In the bottom half of the seventh, the Jets would start out by getting a groundout. The Tigers would then get a double and a single to score their first run of the game. They would then draw a walk to put runners on first and second with one out. The Jets would be able to get the second out of the inning on another groundout. Newman would then walk the bases loaded before giving up a walk-off grand slam to lose the game 5-4.
Lauren Kuhrt would go 2 for 4 and
Sierra Spurlock would go 1 for 1 for the Jets in the loss.
Newman will be back in action on Tuesday, February 18th as they travel back to Oklahoma to take on Northwestern Oklahoma State for a doubleheader starting at 2:00 PM.
