KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Jets doubleheader against Rockhurst was moved to Kansas City Kansas CC due to Rockhurst field being unplayable. The Jets would fall behind big in both games on their way to losing two games, the first one 7-2 and the second game 10-2.
In game one, Rockhurst would come out and get 2 runs in the first inning and 3 in the second to jump out to an early 5-0 lead. Newman would get on the board in the top of the fifth on a
Bailey Bugner sacrifice fly that would bring in
Shanda Cox. The Hawks would answer back in the bottom half of the inning with two solo homeruns.
Newman would get one more run in the top of the fifth when
Paige Wallace would hit a double down the left field line that would bring in
Sierra Spurlock. Neither team would score the rest of the game as Rockhurst would start off the doubleheader with a 7-2 victory over the Jets.
Cox, Bugner, Spurlock and Wallace would have all of Newman's hits in the game
In game two, Rockhurst would come out swinging again as they would put up four runs in the first inning to put the Jets behind early once again. In the bottom of the second inning, the Hawks would get two more runs taking a 6-0 lead heading into the third inning.
Newman would get on the board in the third when
Paige Wallace would ground out, scoring
Jaleigh Conkle to make the score 6-1. In the fourth, the Hawks would hit a 2 run homerun to extend their lead to 8-1. With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth,
Shanda Cox would be hit by a pitch that would bring in
Kameron Pope for the Jets second run of the game. Rockhurst would get the final 2 runs of the game on a 2 RBI double down the right field line on their way to a 10-2 victory for the sweep of the Jets.
Lauren Kuhrt and
Kameron Pope would have the only hits for the Jets in the game with Kuhrt going 2 for 3 and Pope 1 for 1.
The Jets will be back in action on Tuesday February 25
th as they travel to Edmond, Okla. to take on Oklahoma Christian with the doubleheader starting at 2:00 pm.
