WICHITA, Kan. – On Friday afternoon, the Newman Jets played host to the Rogers State Hillcats to start MIAA Conference play. Unfortunately for the Jets, they were unable to get a win as they would fall in game 1, 17-1 and 5-0 in game 2 to start MIAA Conference play 0-2.
In game one, Rogers State would score first as they would get two runs in the top of the first to take the early advantage. Things would remain 2-0 in favor of Rogers State until the top of the fourth, as the Hillcats would explode for 14 runs in the inning to take a 16-0 lead. The Hillcats would score one more in the top of the fifth with an RBI double to extend the lead to 17-0. The one bright spot for the Jets would come with an
Emma Eck homerun that would make the game 17-1, but it wasn't enough as the Hillcats would take game 1.

Emma Eck, and
Katherine Stanford would each have a hit in the game in the Jets loss.
In game two, Newman would look to get past their game 1 struggles. Rogers State would strike first with an RBI single to take the early 1-0 lead. The game would remain the same, until the fourth inning as Rogers State would add three more runs thanks to two RBI doubles and an RBI single making the score 4-0. The Hillcats would add one more run in the top of the 6
th with an RBI single to make the score 5-0. Neither team would score again as the Hillcats would take game 2 and the sweep over the Jets 5-0.
The Jets would have five players with a hit in this one.
The Jets will be back in action Saturday March 7 as they host Northeastern State for another MIAA Conference doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 PM.
