Box Score CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Jets started their Northeastern Oklahoma road trip in the Claremore Expo Center as they took on Rogers State. Newman, looking to bounce back from a tough loss to Emporia State, would not be able to get back on the right track as they would fall to the HillcatsĀ 73-56.
Early in the first half, Newman was able to get their first and only lead of the game, 6-4. After this point in the first half of the contest, the HillcatsĀ started to knock down shots and pull away from the Jets. RSU would take a 29-18 lead into the intermission.
Newman would come out in the second half and cut the Rogers State lead to just 6 points five minutes into the final frame. An 11-0 run for RSUĀ with just over eleven minutes left, would extend their lead to 17, 45-28. The Jets wouldn't be able to get it any closer than 14 points the rest of the way as RSU would take a 73-56 victory on their home court.
The Jets were led by
Joel Boyce who would finish with his first double-double of the season, 14 points and 10 rebounds on 5-6 shooting including 1-1 from three.
Kendrick Buskey and
Jacob Birnbaum both scored 9 points. Rogers State was led in scoring by Brewster Peacock with 15 points. The Jets would shoot 17-50 from the floor for 34%, while the Hillcats would shoot 21-51 for 41.2% from the floor. RSU would out rebound NU 39-31.
The Jets will be back in action on Saturday, January 9th when they take on Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Okla. with tip-off coming at 3:30 PM.
