WICHITA, Kan. - Newman hosted Northeastern State in the season finale Sunday afternoon. The match was Senior Day for the Jets as well. The two teams laced up their boots for a 90 minute battle that gave NSU all the treats with their 1-0 win on Halloween..
Coach
Jay Holmes and his program recognized 6 seniors prior to the game.
Jordan Ashworth,
Jackie Lari,
Evelyn Nguyen,
Makenna Schmal,
Madison Shay and
Ashley Talley each got the start in their final home match for the Newman Jets.
Madison Shay started alongside her sister, Sophomore
Makenzie Shay.
Both the Jets and Riverhawks were active early in opening lanes offensively. Newman's suffocating defense returned again, keeping the Riverhawks off the board until 72:43 when a Riverhawk header slipped past
Jackie Lari who had 5 stops on the day.
The Jets worked tirelessly to find that equalizing goal, but fell short unable to find it before the final whistle. The Jets found themselves on the wrong end of a 1-0 decision once again.
A summary of the entire Newman Women's Soccer could be written by saying this team left it all out on the field and are a couple breaks from playing postseason soccer. Rather, Newman sits at home with a 1-13-2 record, which is a mark that simply does not represent the level of play the Jets displayed for the 16 matches. There is promise for this team even with the 6 seniors leaving. The Jets will head into this offseason figuring out which pieces and parts are needed to push this team ahead when the clock hits triple zeros.
