WICHITA, Kan. - Newman welcomed Manhattan Christian to Fugate Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. The Jets showed no rust from the holiday, beating the Thunder 91-23.
The story of the night was multiple double figure scorers and the Jets defense. 3 Newman players were in double digits against the Thunder.
Britney Ho had 12 points while
Tiffany Dortland scored 11. However, the leading scorer for the Jets came off the bench with
Elise Kaiser scoring 15 points. Kaiser picked up 5 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal and a block in her first double figure scoring outing as a Jet.
On the defensive end, Newman had active hands and was jumping passing lanes to suffocate the Thunder offense. Newman had 17 steals on the night. 7 of them came from
Amoni White who also had 4 points. Newman also cleaned up the boards with 57 to Manhattan Christian's 28.
After the Thunder jumped out to a 2-0 lead, nothing went their way. Those 2 points were the only Manhattan Christian points in the first quarter. The Thunder were again held to 2 points in the third quarter as well.
For Newman, it is an always challenging MIAA slate. It will be Coach
Drew Johnson's first trip through the conference. Newman's conference play opens up Wednesday with a trip to Pittsburg State.
