KEARNEY, Neb. - Newman Men's Basketball was traveling to Fort Hays State when their bus had a mechanical issue, stranding the team just outside Kearney, Nebraska. Nobody was injured in the incident.

Around 1:30 PM Central Time Saturday afternoon the team was forced to vacate the Overland Charters bus they were taking to Hays, Kansas after Friday night's loss to UNK. The bus began smoking just after leaving Kearney and caught flames. Newman and Overload Charters personnel were all able to safely exit the bus.

With all persons on the bus evacuated safely, the bus carrying the Women's Basketball team circled back to pick the men's team up to continue their trip to Hays.

Firefighters responded quickly to the scene and extinguished the flames. Some personal items left on the bus suffered damage in the fire.

Both games for the Women's and Men's teams against Fort Hays State will go on as scheduled at 2 and 4 PM Sunday afternoon.  For more information on the games tomorrow head to newmanjets.com.
