HAYS, Kan. - Newman closed out 2021 with a trip to Hays, Kansas to take on the nationally ranked Fort Hays State Tigers. It was Newman's third game in Hays after the early season tournament where the Jets took on St. Cloud State and Cameron in non-conference matchups. The Tigers defeated the Jets 90-44.
Newman falls to 2-10 (0-6 MIAA) with the loss. The fifth ranked Tigers advance to 9-1 (4-1 MIAA) with the handed win.
The Jets fell behind early, going down 7-0 before Carissa Beck hit a corner three to begin the scoring for Newman at 6:32 in the game. Hays lead stretched to as many as 13 with the quarter finishing 21-8.
It was 50-24 at the half. Fort Hays State shot 61.5% from the field in the first two quarters.
A 20-0 scoring run during the third quarter helped the Tigers secure the win. FHSU's ball movement was some of the best Newman has squared off against. The 5th ranked team assisted on 28 of their 31 made field goals.
Britney Ho led the team with 9 points.
The Jets will enjoy a holiday break before they head to Edmond, Oklahoma with a matchup against UCO. The game is scheduled for Monday, January 3 at 5:30 PM.
