JOPLIN, Mo. - Newman traveled to Joplin, Missouri to take on Missouri Southern.  One final scoring run by the Lions put the Jets under.  MSSU defeated the Jets 74-70.
Newman falls to 3-4 (0-2 MIAA) with Saturday afternoon's loss.  Missouri Southern picks up their second conference win and advance to 5-3 (2-0 MIAA).  One assistant coach for the Lions was none other than Jamahl DePriest, a former assistant on Coach 
R.J. Allen's staff for 4 years, including two as Associate Head Coach.
Newman had things working in the first half, jumping out to a 36-32 lead with less than 2 minutes to play, lead which was aided by an 11-0 run.  The offense was helped with ample scoring from 
Stevie Strong and 
Israel Barnes.  MSSU closed the half out with a buzzer beater giving them a 40-36 lead at the halfway point.
In the second half both teams traded scoring runs.  Newman's largest lead in the second half was 6 points when they took a 66-60 lead thanks to a 
Stevie Strong three-pointer.  The Lions responded with a 12-0 run to take the lead 72-66, a lead they would not surrender.
Newman had 4 double figure scorers including a career high 22 points from 
Stevie Strong and 17 points from 
Israel Barnes.  
DeAndre Johnson scored 11 points and reeled in 9 boards.  
Angelo Santiago scored 10 points and also accumulated 9 rebounds in his first career start.
The Jets head back home to take on Emporia State Wednesday at 7:30 PM.
