JOPLIN, Mo. - Newman visited Missouri Southern for their only matchup of the 2021-22 season. The Jets fell 59 to 51 on Saturday afternoon in Joplin.

Newman went into the halftime break trailing by 8 after slashing the Lion lead nearly in half with an 11-2 run over the final 3:13 over quarter number 2 including a 7-0 run in the last 1:25. Newman's defense stifled MSSU's offensive attack as the scoreless streak for the Lions continued to the 2:55 mark of the third quarter.
Amoni White's jump shot with 1:23 remaining in the third brought the Jets within one, but that was the closest Newman could get to the Lions. White finished with 15 points and 4 assists in 32 minutes off the bench.
Tiffany Dortland tallied 10 points and led the team with 9 rebounds.
The Women's Basketball team returns home for a double dip of conference games in Fugate Gymnasium with a battle against Emporia State slated for 5:30 PM on Wednesday December 8 and then the Washburn Ichabods come to town on a Youth Sports Saturday with tip-off set for 1:30 PM.
