Jets Downed By Griffins 86-75

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Newman Jets and Missouri Western Griffons finally got to face off on Tuesday night in the MWSU Fieldhouse. After having the game moved two different times, the Griffons would be able to hold on late on as they would hold off the Jets on their way to an 86-75 victory.
 
The game would start off with both teams exchanging baskets until the sixteen minute mark where the Jets would hit back to back three's from David Javorsky and Tracy Jones to take a six point advantage. Seven minutes later, the Griffons would find themselves with an eight point lead. A lead they would not relinquish the rest of the half and would build up to as much as twelve points in the half. Newman would close out the first half on a 7-2 run to trail by 5 points heading into the intermission.
 
Early in the second half, Missouri Western would build their lead back up to as much as 14 points. Newman would be able to cut it down to single digits when they would score six straight points to trail 52-44 with just over 14 minutes left to play. The Griffins would respond right back by scoring the next five points. Newman would be able to cut the deficit to eight a few more times in the contest, but that would be as close as Missouri Western would let it get as they would hold on to take down the Jets 86-75.
 
The Jets were led in scoring by David Javorsky who had a career high 23 points. There were four other Jets that finished in double figures. Joel Boyce had 14 points, Ian Lee had 12 points, Tracy Jones had 11 points and Branden Bunn had 10. Lee added in 8 rebounds while Boyce had 7. The Griffins were led in scoring by Reese Glover with 20 points. Newman shot 27 of 59 from the floor for 46 percent and 11 of 20 for 55 percent from three point range. Missouri Western shot 33 of 66 from the field for 50 percent and 13 of 25 from behind the arc for 52 percent.
 
The Jets will be back in action on Thursday, February 18th as they host Northeastern State in their first game of a two game homestand with tip-off set for 7:30 pm inside Fugate Gymnasium.
