SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Newman Men's Tennis team started the 2021 season with a trip to Springfield, Missouri to take on Oklahoma Baptist and #7 Drury. The Jets would go 1-1 in Springfield, defeating Oklahoma Baptist 6-1 in a MIIAA-GAC matchup, but falling to #7 Drury 6-1.
Newman would win all three doubles matches against Oklahoma Baptist.
Arthur Esteves Justo and
Gustavo Gil would defeat Tan/ Brewer 7-5.
Luca Penteado and
Gabriel Yaguar defeated Siegle/Ford 6-2. The final doubles match
Jarrod Nowak and
Teodor Antelj defeated Melton and Thoma 6-2.
Justo, playing #1 singles, would defeat Brewer in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Gustavo Gil would fall to Tan 6-4, 6-1.
Teodor Antelj defeated Ford 6-0, 6-0.
Gabriel Yaguar defeated Siegle 6-3, 6-1.
Luca Penteado would defeat Thoma 6-1, 6-1.
Jarrod Nowak would defeat Melton 7-5, 6-4.
In the doubles matches the Jets would pick up one win against #7 Drury. In the first doubles match,
Arthur Esteves Justo and
Gustavo Gil would fall to Hadeler/Wilken 6-3.
Luca Penteado and
Gabriel Yaguar would fall to Ogilvy/Stierling 6-4.
Jarrod Nowak and
Teodor Antelj would save the Jets from being swept with a 6-4 win over Sarlet/Diot.
Gustavo Gil would play #1 singles for the Jets in this matchup falling Hadeler 6-0, 6-3. Justo would also drop his match with Diot 6-0, 3-0. Antelj would fall to Wilken 7-5, 6-3. Yaguar would get the only singles win for the Jets, defeating Sarlet in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 10-3. Penteado would fall to Ogilvy in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 10-5. Nowak would fall to Stierling 6-1, 6-3.
The Jets will be back in action Feb. 27
th as they host Tabor College with the match starting at 3:00 PM.
