LUBBOCK, Texas – The Jets opened up the Lubbock Christian tournament against West Texas A&M and #19 Lubbock Christian. The Jets would be unable to avoid the big inning in both contests as they would fall to West Texas 9-2 and Lubbock Christian 7-2.
In their first contest of the day, the Jets would jump ahead early scoring in the top of the first when
Paige Wallace would walk with the bases loaded to score
Anissa Ramos. The Buffalos would get a run in the bottom of the second to tie things up before Newman would take the lead back the following half inning on a solo shot by Tayler Ullery making the score 2-1 in the third inning. West Texas would blow things open in the bottom of the third scoring five runs to jump out to a 5-2 advantage. The Buffalos would add two more in the fourth on a homerun to left center making the score 7-2. Neither team would score in the remaining three innings as West Texas A&M would take down Newman 7-2 to open the tournament.
The second game of the day would come against the tournament host in Lubbock Christian, a former Heartland Conference foe. Neither team would get anything going in the opening inning, in the bottom of the second the Chaps would strike first as they would plate 7 runs in the inning on 9 hits and 1 error. Newman would hold Lubbock Christian scoreless for the rest of the contest and would add a run in the fifth and the sixth inning, but wouldn't get anything more than that as they would fall to LCU 7-2.
Newman will be back in action tomorrow at 11:00 am as they take on Texas Permian Basin and 1:00 pm against Midwestern State.
