LUBBOCK, Texas – In the second day of the Lubbock Christian Tournament, the Jets would take on Texas Permian Basin in their first contest of the day and Midwestern State in their second. Newman would end both games early as they would enforce the run rule against UTPB beating them 9-1 in 5 innings. In game two, the Jets would shutout the Mustangs of Midwestern State in 5 innings winning 10-0.
GAME 1
After falling behind in the top of the first inning, the Jets would respond scoring two in the bottom half of the inning.
Taylor Ullery would hit a sacrifice fly scoring
Anissa Ramos.
Emma Eck would then smack a double to left center scoring
Paige Wallace to take a 2-1 lead into the second inning. In the second inning Eck would once again drive in Wallace with another double.
Lauren Kuhrt would then come up with the bases load and reach on an error by the third baseman, advancing to third on the error.
Kaitlyn Praught,
Emma Eck and and Tayler Ullery would all score on the play making the score 6-1. In the ensuing inning, Wallace would drive in
Shanda Cox before Eck would reach on a fielder's choice that would score Ramos. Newman would score their final run of the contest in the fifth when Ullery would drive in
Mackenzie Anderson who was pinch running for Ramos to run rule the Falcons.
After giving up the lone run in the first inning,
Madison Dewitt sat down the Falcons in order in the last four innings. She pitched 5 innings giving up 1 run on 2 hits.
Ramos would go 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored.
Wallace would go 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
Ullery went 2 for 2 with 2 RBI's and a walk.
Eck went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI.
GAME 2
Newman would jump on top of Midwestern State early as they would put up two runs in the top of the first when
Kaitlyn Praught would drive in
Anissa Ramos and
Paige Wallace. In the second inning, Ramos would drive in
Megan Walz with a single and
Paige Wallace would bring
Sydney Kuhrt to the plate to push the Jets up 4-0 after two innings. Neither team would get anything going in the third inning before Newman would blow open the game in the fourth inning as they would plate 5 runs. With the bases loaded Ullery would drive in Ramos and Wallace bringing Eck to the plate. Eck would single to left scoring Wallace and advancing Ullery to third. Praught would come up next and drive in Ullery and Eck making the score 9-0 for the Jets. Praught would pick up one more RBI in the game in the fifth inning as she would drive in Wallace for the final run of the game.
Anna Veltien would throw 5 innings giving up just 4 hits and striking out 2 Mustangs on her way to her first shutout and win of the season.
Ramos would go 3 for 4 with an RBI.
Wallace would go 4 for 4 with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored.
Praught went 3 for 4 with 5 RBI's.
The Jets will be back in action on Friday February 12
th for the Oklahoma Christian Tournament where they will take on Southern Nazarene and Arkansas Tech.
