KEARNEY, Neb. – Newman would finish their road trip on Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Kearney, Nebraska to take on the Lopers of Nebraska Kearney inside Health and Sports Center. This game would come down to the final seconds but the Jets couldn't get the late shot to fall as the Lopers would defeat the Jets 70-65.
For most of the first half, both teams would battle back and forth with neither team being able to gain much of an advantage. After a
DeAndre Johnson jumper made the score 21-21 with 5:38 left in the opening half, the Lopers would outscore the Jets by 5 to close out the half and take a 35-28 lead into the intermission. Newman in the first half would shoot 11-23 from the field in the first half for 47.8% from the field including 3-7 from beyond the arc.
In the second half, UNK would score the first 7 points to extend their lead to 42-28 with 17:58 left. A
Tyjil Hereford three point basket and an
Ian Lee jumper would cut the deficit to 9, 42-33 with 16:14 left in the second half. The Jets would start chipping away at the Loper lead as they would get it down to five points 55-50 with 11:38 left in the second half. A couple free throw baskets by
Ian Lee cut the UNK lead down to 3 points and a basket by
DeAndre Johnson would cut the deficit to 1, 55-54 with 8:59 left in the second half.
Nebraska Kearney would respond by pushing their lead back to six points and the Jets once again would cut the lead down to one possession, 62-59. Newman would foul Nebraska Kearney and the Lopers would make both free throws that would give the Lopers a 64-59 lead with 45 seconds left. Newman would answer when
Branden Bunn would knock down a three point basket that would cut the deficit to 2 points with 23 seconds left. Nebraska Kearney would once again make their free throws to push the lead back to 4, 66-62.
Ian Lee would make a three point basket with 10 seconds left and
David Javorsky would get a steal and was unable to make a layup that would have given the Jets the lead. Nebraska-Kearney would continue to make their free throws extending their lead to 5, as they would survive the Jets comeback efforts for a 70-65 victory.
The Jets were led in scoring by
Branden Bunn with 20 points, while
Joel Boyce added 14 points and
Ian Lee's 13 points. Newman shot 24 of 55 from the floor for 43.6 percent and 9 of 21 from three for 42.9 percent. Nebraska-Kearney would shoot 22 of 48 from the floor for 45.8 percent and 6 of 18 from three point range for 33.3 percent.

th as they host Lincoln with tip-off at 6:00 PM.
