WICHITA, Kan. – On a warm Saturday afternoon in Wichita, the Newman Jets continued their homestand as Lincoln University came to town for a MIAA Conference doubleheader. The Jets were able to pick up the doubleheader sweep with a walkoff win in game one 7-6, and a 10-2 run rule win in game two.
Game one the Jets would score first on a wild pitch that to take the early 1-0 lead. Lincoln would respond in the top of the second with an RBI single to tie the game 1-1. Lincoln would add a run in the top of the fourth with a homerun to make the score 2-1. Lincoln would extend their lead in the top of the sixth with a homerun making the score 4-1. The Jets would cut into the Blue Tigers lead in the bottom of the sixth with a RBI double by
Emma Eck to make the score 4-2. Lincoln would score 2 more runs in the top half of the seventh inning to lead 6-2.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Newman would string together four singles in a row to make the score 6-4. With a runner on second and two outs,
Anissa Ramos would walk and
Taylor Ullery would single to right field making the score 6-5.
Emma Eck would tie the game up at 6-6 with a single to left field.
Kaitlyn Praught would come up next and smack a 2-1 pitch to left field that would bring in Ullery and complete the comeback as the Jets would walkoff the Blue Tigers 7-6.
In Game two, the Jets would keep the momentum going scoring first with 5 runs in the bottom of the second inning which included a RBI groundout by
Lauren Kwak, an RBI single by
Jaleigh Conkle, and a three RBI double by
Anissa Ramos. The Blue Tigers would cut into the Jets lead scoring two runs in the top of the third to make the score 5-2. Newman would have another big inning in the bottom of the third scoring five more runs which included a two RBI single by
Mackenzie Anderson and another three RBI double by Ramos that gave the Jets a 10-2 lead.
Anna Veltien and the Jets defense would hold the Blue Tigers for the final two innings as the Jets would finish the doubleheader with a 10-2 victory.
The Jets will look to keep the momentum going as they continue their homestand hosting #25 Central Oklahoma on Friday, April 2
nd for another MIAA Conference doubleheader with first pitch set for 2:00 pm.
