WINFIELD. Kan. - The Newman Men's Tennis team took on Southwestern College on Thursday afternoon for their final match of the 2020-21 season. The Jets would take the 6-1 victory over the Moundbuilders on the cold and gloomy day.
Newman would sweep doubles behind a 6-2 victory from
Arthur Esteves Justo and
Teodor Antelj, a 7-6 victory from
Luca Penteado and
Gabriel Yaguar and a 6-3 victory from
Jarrod Nowak and
Gustavo Gil.
Gil would pick up the win in the #1 singles spot by consecutive 6-4 scores. Justo would win at #2 doubles 6-1, 7-6(7-3). Antelj would pick up another victory for Newman 6-1, 6-4. Yaguar, playing #4 singles, would dominate late in his 7-5, 6-2 victory. Penteado would control his match from the start as he would pick up the 6-1, 6-4 victory. Nowak would win the first set 7-5 before dropping the second set 6-3 and eventually losing the tiebreaker 12-10.
