ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Newman Softball team dropped both of their contests on Friday to Missouri Western. The Griffons would win a close game one 2-0 and would win game two 8-0 in five innings.
The Jets would have a great chance to put up a run in the first inning of game one when they would get the bases loaded, but would be unable to drive anyone in. Newman would leave another runner on in the second inning after a one out single by
Jaleigh Conkle. The Griffons would plate one run in the bottom half of the inning to take a 1-0 lead. Newman would get runners on in the next two innings, but were unsuccessful at bringing them in. Missouri Western would add another run in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 2-0. Neither team would get much of anything going after that point as the Griffons would take game one 2-0.
Game two would be all Griffons as Newman would only have one runner reach base when Jessica Ornelas would reach on an error in the third inning. The Griffons would plate one run in the first, two in the fourth and five in the fifth on their way to an 8-0 victory over the Jets.
Newman will be back in action tomorrow April, 10
th for a doubleheader with Northwest Missouri State starting at 2:00 pm.
