Jets drop three straight sets to the nationally ranked UNK Lopers

WICHITA, KS – Newman hosted #4 ranked Nebraska-Kearney Friday night in Fugate Gymnasium.  The Jets played the Lopers in front of a sea of red.  UNK bested Newman 3-0 by scores of (25-19), (25-14) and (25-22).

Newman, now 5-4 (1-2 MIAA), fell to #4 UNK, 11-1 (2-1 MIAA), on Friday night.  UNK hit .300 on the night while the Jets swung .197.  Anna Squiers of the Lopers led all hitters with 13 kills.

The Jets dug 55 of UNK's attacks, but the Lopers were able to bury 50 of their 130 total attacks.  Natalie Trigo came off the bench in set three and had a crucial dig that sparked the Jets, while also adding a service ace to her line.  The 3rd set run came up just short as the Jets lost that final set (25-22).

The Jets were led offensively by by Jada Key who swung .500 with 8 kills and added 3 blocks.  Imani Jones had two blocks and 5 kills swinging at a .400 clip.  It was a solid performance by the two Senior Middle Hitters.

Jose Lugo's team was not able to surmount big scoring runs by UNK and those wound up being the differences in each of the 3 sets.  The Jets will look to get on some more scoring runs of their own in their future matches.

Up next: The Jets are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, September 25 against Fort Hays State.  First serve is slated for 3 PM.
